What is a cut off mark?

Cut off mark is an acceptable  score placed by a particular institution or University as a basis of admitting candidates into that particular school. A candidate is allowed to sit for an entrance examination and his or her score in that examination is used for comparison with the cut off mark.

The official JAMB UTME cut off mark for a degree awarding programme in the Caritas University of Enugu State is 180.

This does not mean that scoring 180 in JAMB UTME examination will automatically qualify you for admission.

Scoring a mark of 180 and above only qualifies you to register and participate in the Post UTME screening exercise.

After the Post UTME screening exercise, the University will release a new cut off mark for each course offered in the school.

Only candidates who meet up with the cut off mark are awarded with admission.

The Post UTME screening exercise cut off mark differs from one academic session to another academic session.

Some Factors Guiding The Admission Process Are:

  • The amount of people who applied for a particular course. The more the people the higher the competition.
  • The amount of people a particular course can admit in an academic year.
  • The overall performance of applicant for a course in the Post UTME screening exercise.

This is why most people score above 180 and still don’t get admitted.

After getting a high score in JAMB UTME examination, you still need to get a high score in the POST UTME screening exercise so as to gain access to the top of the list of people being considered for admission.

Getting a high score like 250 in JAMB UTME examination and a score of 30% in Post UTME screening exercise will not qualify you for admission, but a score of 180 in JAMB UTME examination and 80-100% in Post UTME screening exercise will definitely gain you admission into the institution. It is also necessary to note that because of the high level of competition in some courses like Medicine, a score of 180 in JAMB UTME examination might not gain admission because other candidates for the same course have higher scores like 300.

It is very easy to gain admission if you have meet the cut off mark required by the school, and it is quite easier if you score more than the required cut off mark.

People with higher scores are considered first.

Apart from scoring above the cut off mark, other requirements include five credit pass in O’level result.

It could be Waec, GCE, Neck, Nabteb, and the likes.

Most schools accept it in not more than two sitting.

In summary, to gain admission into Caritas University Enugu, you must have scored a minimum of 180 in the just concluded JAMB UTME examination and a high score in your Post UTME screening exercise.

Due to the competitive nature of some courses, those with higher scores gain admission while those with lower scores may not even though they had crossed the cut off mark.
