MTN is one of the mobile network operators in Nigeria with a wide network coverage. It is no doubt the most used network operator in Nigeria and has the widest network coverage. This is why she uses the slogan “everywhere you go.”

 

The yellow colour branded network since her inception has being a major player in the telecommunications business in Nigeria and has grown from strength to strength over the years with a number of number series such as 0803, 0806, 0813, 0816, 0903, 0906 etc.

One of the major service is internet connection. For devices to be used to connect to the internet via any mobile network, internet settings must be put in place. So, in this piece we shall take a look at the internet settings required to be able to access the internet. There are two ways to one carry out the settings and they are expressed below:

 

  1. Automatic Settings

One can get the internet settings automatically sent to one’s device in such a way that all that will be required is just to save it as received. To achieve this, kindly follow the steps below:

i. On your mobile device, navigate to your SMS menu.

ii. Go to create new SMS and type “SETTINGS”

III. Forward the SMS to 3888.

iv. You will receive settings, kindly save the settings as you receive them.

After saving the settings, your device is ready to browse the internet. Please note that you need data to be able to browse. It is worthy of note that some devices get this settings once the MTN SIM is inserted and the phone is switched on. It is usually the first set of SMS that will come in. Just save them and your device is activated for internet connection.

2. Manual APN Settings

There are some mobile devices that can not receive the automatic settings. Such device requires manual configuration to enable them to browse. Please follow the steps below to do manual configuration of device:

i. On your mobile device, navigate to the settings menu.

ii. Find and select data option.

III. Find and select mobile network.

iv. From here, select APN (access point name)

v. Press the option button and from the options, select new APN.

vi. In the new APN, kindly input the details as seen below.

 

Account Name: mtn

Port : 8080

Username: web

Password: web

Access point name (APN): web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net

 

VII. After inputting these settings, press the option button and select save from the options. With this, your mobile device is set for internet connection.

If either or both settings have been tried and you still have challenges setting up your phone or accessing the internet with your device, kindly visit the nearest MTN office to you for assistance or you may the customer service on 180 via MTN line.
