Have you ever been stuck in a really bad place or stranded for a while and you just really need to call someone or quickly finish an unfinished discussion with someone and you’ve got no credit, but you wish there was a way you could just credit your line and repay later once you’re out of the “situation or mix” that you are?
Well now, there’s a way and I’m sure most of us are familiar with that feeling of being bailed out by the “borrow me credit” from our various networks.
Although, the “borrow me credit” value added service has been given various by different network services, for example Airtel is “Extra Credit”, MTN is ” Xtra Time”. However, the protocols and the rules for borrowing credit is almost the same and the percentage (%).
How To Borrow Airtime from Glo, Airtel, MTN And Etisalat
How To Borrow Credit From Glo
To borrow credit from Glo you must first apply for the service by dialing *321#.
Eligibility
You must have been on the Glo network for at least four(4) months. If you have not used your Glo Sim actively for up to four months, you wouldn’t be able to apply.
This is quite reasonable, Glo wouldn’t want you to runaway with their credit a month after you buy the sim and apply for the “borrow me credit “.
Also, in the course of the four (4) months you must have been recharging your account regularly either for voice or for data.
Applying For This Plan
Once you dial *321# you would first be prompted to create a four digit pin, which you’ll use to apply for credit anytime you wish to in the future. After you must have done this, you would be shown the amount(s) of credit you are qualified to borrow. See how it is determined below:
N50
To be eligible to borrow N50, you must have averagely refilled your account with N200 monthly for four months.
N100
To be eligible to borrow N100, you must have averagely refilled your account with N400 monthly for four months.
N200
To be eligible to borrow N200, you must have averagely refilled your account with N800 monthly for four months.
N500
To be eligible to borrow N500, you must have averagely refilled your account with N2000 monthly for four months.
N1000
To be eligible to borrow N1,000, you must have averagely refilled your account with N5,000 monthly for twelve months.
NB: It is important to note that Glo charges 15% for every amount you borrow. For example:
If you borrow N50, you’d be given N42.5, so also if you borrow N100, you’d N85 and that’s how it is charged for other recharge values.

How To Borrow Credit From Airtel
To borrow credit from Airtel’s “Extra Credit” you must dial *500#.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this service you must have been on the Airtel Network for at least months. If you haven’t been on Airtel’s network for up to 3 months, you can’t apply for Airtel’s Extra Credit.
Applying
Once you dial *500# you’ll be taken to the Extra Credit USSD Menu, where you’ll decide if you want to borrow credit once or in advance before your main account credit is exhausted. Once you select the option you wish to apply for, you’ll be shown the amount you’re eligible to borrow. Here’s how it is calculated:
N25
To be eligible to borrow N50, you must have averagely refilled your account with N150 monthly for three months.
N100
To be eligible to borrow N100, you must have averagely refilled your account with N300 monthly for three months.
N200
To be eligible to borrow N200, you must have averagely refilled your account with N600 monthly for three months.
N500
To be eligible to borrow N500, you must have averagely refilled your account with N1,500 monthly for three months.
N1,000
To be eligible to borrow N1,000, you must have averagely refilled your account with N6,000 monthly for three months.
N2,000
To be eligible to borrow N2,000, you must have averagely refilled your account with N6,000 monthly for three months.
NB: You will be required to repay the credit loan within three days. The airtime can be used to make calls to other networks.
Airtel charges 15% on each recharge you borrow except for the N25 recharge, which is charged at 20%. For example, if you borrow N25 you’ll be given N20, if you borrow N50, you’ll be given N42.5 and so on.
How To Borrow Credit From MTN
To borrow credit from MTN XtraTime you must dial *606#.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for this service you must be a prepaid user with a registered MTN Sim. Your main account must be between N0.00 and N12.00 I.e the minimum amount of credit you must have on your main account must be N0.00, if you have more than N12.00 on your account, you wouldn’t be allowed to borrow credit unless it is N12.00 or lower.
The calculation of your frequency recharge and the average monthly amount you spend per month is done by MTN and they also determine the amount you’re eligible to borrow.
Applying:
Once you dial *606# you’ll be taken to a USSD menu where you can check if you’re eligible or not. Select 1 to check your eligibility status, once you know you’re eligible to borrow credit, select 2, which is to “Request Airtime (XtraTime).”.
NB: MTN charges 15% on each recharge card you borrow. For example: if you borrow N50, you’ll be given N42.5, if you borrow N100, you’ll be given N85 and so on.
To check your XtraTime credit simply dial *606# or dial the normal *556# where it’ll display your credit as (-) what you owe, for example if you borrow N100 and you haven’t paid, your main account balance would read -N100.
