ATM card is no doubt your hard earned money in a card. With it, you can get access to your bank account and even perform transactions especially with the presence of an ATM machine, POS machine as well as across financial platforms. If such card is lost, it means you are cut off from your money.

 

Well, it also means you could be losing your hard earned money to an unknown person. This is more painful and is the reason why you must take a step once you notice you have misplaced your ATM card. Interestingly, we are looking at how to do this without visiting your bank just if it happens over the weekend, after official hour or if your bank is far from you. Different Ways Of Block Or Deactivate Your Lost ATM Card 

  1. SMS

This is one of the easiest ways to deactivate your ATM. You can forward an SMS that will contain your account number to a particular number. This is available at union Bank, Gtbank etc. You will need to know your bank format for the SMS and send as expected.

GTB ATM Deactivation

To block your GTBank ATM Card via the SMS banking platform, simply send the following syntax “HOTLIST NUBAN” to 08076665555 from your registered mobile number with the bank. Kindly replace the NUBAN with your 10-digit account number.

 

Stanbic IBTC Bank

To block your Stanbic IBTC ATM card through the SMS prompt, simply send the word “Blockcard NUBAN” to 30909 via your registered mobile number. Kindly bare in mind that the NUBAN should be replaced with the 10-digit account number of the lost ATM Or Debit Card .

 

  1. Bank USSD Code

Your bank USSD code can be used to deactivate your ATM card. Simply dial the code and follow the prompt. This is available on Fidelity Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank etc. This must be dialed on your registered mobile number on which you do receive bank alert.

Fidelity Bank ATM Deactivation

Your Fidelity Bank card may be deactivated using the Fidelity Instant (USSD) Banking. Kindly dial *770*911# on your registered phone and then follow the directive from the response, until you get to the deactivation stage.

  1. Email

Almost all banks can help you to deactivate your ATM card if you forward an email to them. First Bank, UBA, Gtbank, Keystone Bank, Sterling Bank etc. You only need the email address. Make sure you supply all the information they need to assist you.

  1. Internet Banking

If you are registered on internet banking, then with immediate effect, login into your account and navigate to the cards tab to deactivate the lost ATM card. This is the fastest option. Wema Bank, Gtbank, Keystone Bank, Sterling Bank etc.

  1. Mobile App

I am quite sure all banks have mobile app but I’m sure if you can block ATM card via mobile app for all banks but some banks do have the option such as Gtbank, Access Bank, Wema Bank etc.

  1. ATM Machine

ATM machine is another option you can use to deactivate your lost ATM card. It can also be done on POS machine for some banks. Wema Bank is a good example here.

  1. Customer Service

If you know the customer service number of your bank, give them a call and request for your ATM card deactivation. Some banks even use interactive voice response (IVR). FCMB, Gtbank etc. are examples of banks with this option.
